6 months, a $1.2 million reward and still no Nancy Guthrie

It will have been exactly six months on Saturday since Nancy Guthrie was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona, home.

Her daughter, “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, posted a video earlier this week with a plea to whoever took her mother against her will “to do the right thing.”

“We are in a nightmare that will not end. Nothing about our situation has changed,” she said. “I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing. Help us bring this situation to an end. For all of us, no matter where we’ve been and what we’ve done, I believe there is always a way home.”

The timeline of Guthrie’s disappearance began on Jan. 31 when she returned home for the night. In the early hours of Feb. 1, the 84-year-old’s doorbell camera was disconnected. Moments later, a person police have identified as between 5 feet, 9 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a medium build, wearing a mask, long-sleeve shirt, and gloves is seen tampering with security equipment, per A&E.

Law enforcement release ransom notes

On Feb. 2, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that Guthrie’s disappearance was being handled as a crime and that she was believed to be abducted from her home.

The Police Department released two ransom notes on Friday that they obtained back in February in hopes that the linguistic style combined with the camera footage of the masked individual will be recognized by someone in the public.

“These communications reveal distinctive patterns of word choice, syntax, and phraseology that reflect the writer’s unique linguistic style,” per the press release. “They also provide valuable insight into the person’s mindset, motives, and the evolution of their tone over time. A friend, family member, coworker, classmate, or acquaintance may recognize these patterns of expression and possess information that could help identify the individual responsible.”

There is a total of $1.2 million in reward for whoever brings forth knowledge about Guthrie’s disappearance.

“We believe, just as the family does, just as Savannah does, somebody knows something. We need that person to call us,” Nanos told Fox News.

Hair DNA reaches dead end

Investigators recently reached a dead end regarding hair DNA that was found inside Guthrie’s home back in February.

“Yes, there was a hair. We had it and thought, ‘OK, well, we’ll do the DNA first,’ right? You’re going to do DNA before something else,” Nanos told Fox News.

“It came back … there’s no DNA,” he said. “But does that mean the hair isn’t that of the suspect? We won’t know that till we have the suspect’s hair. You don’t just destroy it.”

He continued, “There’s other things that hair may prove valuable for, but right now it was just about, ‘Is there any DNA there?’ And the answer was no. … That was just a matter of weeks ago.”
