9 events to get you out of the house this Labor Day weekend

Labor Day is coming up this weekend and many Utahns are looking for something fun to do to celebrate the holiday that marks the end of summer.

There are a wide variety of events taking place over the weekend across the state. Some of these events are specific to Labor Day while others are bigger events that happen to take place over the weekend.

Events include city festivals, barbecues, music festivals and fairs with local vendors.

So for anyone looking for something unique to do this weekend, here is a list of events happening across Utah.

Moab Music Festival

Dates: Sept. 2-18

Location: Multiple locations in the Moab area

The Moab Music Festival features 53 artists, across 23 concerts in 13 different venues. This year is the festival’s 34th season and the central theme is “This Land.” The theme explores “the diverse musical roots that have shaped American music over the past 250 years.”

Payson City Golden Onion Days

Dates: Sept. 3-7

Location: Memorial Park, Payson

The annual celebration was first known as the Onion Harvest and Homecoming to honor Payson’s status as a major producer of onions. The festival includes a variety of events: concerts, a carnival, a baby contest, 5K and 10K races, a car show, a flower show, a parade, food and merchandise vendors, and fireworks.

Swiss Days

Dates: Sept. 4-5

Location: Town square in Midway

Swiss Days in Midway is a weekend full of small-town charm, artisan vendors, delicious food and live entertainment. The local vendors featured offer a wide variety of unique products and handmade crafts.

Snowbird’s Oktoberfest

Dates: Weekends from Aug. 8 to Oct. 11

Location: Snowbird ski resort

Snowbird’s Oktoberfest spans multiple weeks from the end of summer into the start of fall. The festival is fun for the whole family with live music, activities, traditional Bavarian fare, a variety of local vendors and delicious food. The festival is open every Saturday and Sunday from Aug. 8 to Oct. 11, as well as Labor Day.

Thanksgiving Point Labor Day Luau

Dates: Sept. 7 at 6 p.m.

Location: Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point

Thanksgiving Point’s annual Labor Day Luau brings a taste of the tropics to Utah. Guests will be treated to a Hawaiian-inspired dinner with a spread of kalua pork, teriyaki chicken and more. During the dinner there will also be performances featuring traditional stories and Pacific Island dances. There are limited spots for the event and tickets can be purchased online.

Sundance Labor Day BBQ

Dates: Sept. 7, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: The Lookout at Sundance

Guests can celebrate Labor Day and the end of summer with a barbecue at the Lookout at Sundance. The barbecue includes a “mouthwatering fusion of smoky, char-grilled delights, set against the breathtaking views at the Lookout.” Each barbecue purchase will also give guests a 50% discount on a ticket for a scenic lift ride.

Park City Miners Day

Dates: Sept. 7

Location: Park City

Park City Miners Day is a festival with a wide variety of events on Labor Day. The events include: a Miners Day Breakfast, a 5K run, the running of the balls, a Miners Day Parade, food trucks, vendors, kids games, miner competitions and live music.

Festival Latinoamericano

Dates: Sept. 4-7

Location: Center Street and University Ave, downtown Provo

The Festival Latinoamericano in Provo draws thousands of visitors every Labor Day weekend to celebrate with music, dance, art and food from across Latin America. The performers are decked out in a variety of colorful costumes.

Iron County Fair

Dates: Sept. 3-7

Location: Iron County Fairgrounds

The Iron County Fair happens every year over Labor Day weekend. The theme for this year’s fair is “Rockin’ the 90s.” The main events of the fair include a carnival, car show, demolition derby, dirt games and a rodeo.
