Officials on Thursday arrested Jamshid Ghomi, a tech CEO with dual U.S.-Iranian citizenship, in a raid on his home in Orange County, California. Ghomi has been accused of violating international sanctions by selling goods to Iran, according to a Department of Justice release. <\/p>\n

\u201cGhomi enriched himself by supplying U.S. technology to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and other sanctioned entities responsible for Iran\u2019s nuclear program,\u201d said John A. Eisenberg, assistant attorney general for National Security. <\/p>\n

The DOJ says Ghomi violated the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, a law aimed at reducing national security threats posed by Iran. <\/p>\n

Commenting on the arrest, Darren Lian, acting Special Agent for the IRS Criminal Investigation said, \u201cToday\u2019s arrest reflects our commitment to disrupt the illegal flow of American technology to foreign nations, especially our adversaries.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Lian, Ghomi used front companies and falsified documentation to hide his activities. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to work with our partners to safeguard national security by utilizing our financial investigative expertise,\u201d Lian concluded, per the DOJ release. <\/p>\n

If convicted, Ghomi could face up to 20 years in prison. <\/p>\n

Ghomi allegedly smuggled goods as far back as 2011<\/h3>\n

The Department of Justice report states that, beginning in 2011, Ghomi \u201cmoved more than $15 million from Iran into his U.S. bank accounts and into a construction escrow account held on his behalf. He falsely reported those funds to the IRS as a foreign inheritance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the years, Ghomi never reported more than $20,684 in yearly income to the IRS despite owning a $35 million mansion in Orange County. <\/p>\n

U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said that Ghomi received more than $15 million from Iran and the money was received from the illegal sale of \u201cU.S.-origin computer networking parts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ghomi\u2019s company, Faraz Pardaz Rayaneh Co. Ltd., is a Tehran based technology company that he allegedly used to hide his conduct. According to prosecutors, Ghomi used the company to supply computer networking equipment that benefited Iran\u2019s centrifuge and uranium-enrichment programs. <\/p>\n

\u201cOur nation\u2019s laws prohibiting doing business with one of the world\u2019s largest state sponsors of terrorism must be enforced and obeyed. We will hold him accountable by seeking an appropriate prison sentence and by seizing his assets, including his $35 million Newport Beach mansion,\u201d Essayli concluded. <\/p>\n
