James Handy, a veteran character actor in films such as \u201cTop Gun: Maverick,\u201d \u201cLogan\u201d and \u201cJumanji,\u201d was stabbed to death at a home in Los Angeles on Wednesday morning, authorities said. He was 81. <\/p>\n

The son of Handy\u2019s girlfriend, 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, was arrested and booked on a count of murder, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement. <\/p>\n

Officers were dispatched to the home after a 911 caller reported, \u201cI am the son of man. I just killed the man of sin.\u201d<\/p>\n

When officers arrived, they found Handy unconscious in the front yard, suffering from a stab wound to his chest. He was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead. <\/p>\n

Police said the suspect, who lived at the home with his mother in Los Angeles\u2019 Tarzana neighborhood, flagged down officers and told them, \u201che was the one they were looking for.\u201d <\/p>\n

Handy was born in New York and appeared in dozens of films and TV shows across six decades, often playing supporting characters, including a bartender in \u201cTop Gun: Maverick,\u201d a doctor in \u201cLogan,\u201d a coroner in \u201cArachnophobia\u201d and an exterminator in \u201cJumanji.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also appeared in several TV shows including \u201cThe X Files,\u201d \u201cNCIS: Los Angeles,\u201d \u201cThe West Wing\u201d \u201cCriminal Minds,\u201d \u201cAlias,\u201d \u201cLaw & Order,\u201d \u201cCastle,\u201d \u201cMurder, She Wrote\u201d and \u201cCSI:NY.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI could not have asked for a more talented, humble or gracious client and friend than James Handy,\u201d his talent agent, Pam Ellis-Evenas of the Ellis Talent Group, said in a statement shared with The Associated Press.<\/p>\n
