President Donald Trump, who abruptly ended an interview with NBC News Sunday over his claims of a \u201crigged\u201d election in Los Angeles, isn\u2019t the only one raising suspicion over the recent primary that will help determine who will lead the city and also the state of California. <\/p>\n

In California, the mayoral and gubernatorial races have not yet been called nearly a week after Election Day. <\/p>\n

House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters on Monday California\u2019s primary election \u201cstinks to high heaven.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThey are counting votes weeks after the election,\u201d Johnson told reporters. \u201cI\u2019m not saying it\u2019s rigged. I\u2019m saying it stinks to high heaven, and everybody knows that.\u201d<\/p>\n

State law allows the counting of ballots for 30 days after an election, and \u201cballot harvesting\u201d is legal in California. <\/p>\n

What is the state of the Los Angeles race?<\/h3>\n

Spencer Pratt, a former reality TV star who is running for Los Angeles mayor, was in second place behind incumbent Mayor Karen Bass for several days after the primary election on June 2. But he lost his lead in the past few days over Nithya Raman, who is now in second place. Pratt or Raman will advance to the general election in November to face Bass. <\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018A net swing of more than 43,000 votes since Tuesday.\u2019 43,000, huh? Where have I seen that number before \u2026? Probably nothing,\u201d Pratt wrote on Sunday evening. <\/p>\n

Pratt, in a post on X, shared a screenshot of an article that states L.A.\u2019s homeless population is 43,000. <\/p>\n

With about 83% of the expected vote in, Bass has secured 34.7%, followed by Raman with 27.1%, and Pratt with 26.7%, according to The Associated Press. <\/p>\n

As of late Monday, Pratt was trailing Raman by about 3,000 votes. <\/p>\n

In a separate post on Sunday, Pratt shared a photo of Raman, who appeared shocked, and wrote, \u201cRemember everyone \u2026 we are still in the lead, and we\u2019ve got allllllll the way till July 6 to keep counting. They\u2019re not the only ones who know where to find votes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Glenn Greenwald, a columnist, wrote on X that given L.A.\u2019s \u201cextremely blue\u201d leanings, \u201cSpencer Pratt has no chance of beating Karen Bass.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe entire Dem establishment is behind Bass and she has a far greater chance to lose to Raman than Pratt,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Trump calls California primary election \u2018rigged\u2019 <\/h3>\n

Trump raised concerns about the integrity of the primary election in the Golden State on Monday, alleging the race was \u201crigged.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cNo way this could have happened. Rigged Election!\u201d the president wrote in a post on Truth Social. <\/p>\n

His remarks came hours after he abruptly ended an interview with NBC News when challenged over his claims about California\u2019s primary and the 2020 election. <\/p>\n

\u201cDo you think it\u2019s appropriate that they have an election and five days later, they\u2019re nowhere close to picking a winner?\u201d the president said to \u201cMeet the Press\u201d host Kristen Welker. \u201cDo you know why they\u2019re doing that? Because they\u2019re cheating on the election \u2026 We\u2019re \u2026 like a third-world country.\u201d<\/p>\n

When pressed for evidence of widespread fraud, Trump said, \u201cAll I have to do is look, and I listen,\u201d he said. She responded, \u201cThat\u2019s not evidence,\u201d prompting Trump to end the interview. <\/p>\n

Federal officials are actively investigating California\u2019s primary elections for fraud. <\/p>\n

\u201cYes. There is evidence of election fraud in California,\u201d Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli wrote on X on Friday.<\/p>\n

He pointed to a case his office found last month, where a California woman allegedly paid homeless people living on the skid row to register to vote. \u201cMore investigations are underway,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n

In another post, Essayli said, \u201cCalifornia\u2019s election system has serious structural vulnerabilities. Universal vote-by-mail with no voter ID requirements creates conditions where fraud can go undetected and unpunished, eroding public confidence.\u201d <\/p>\n

A federal prosecutor, Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Renner, was present at the Los Angeles County ballot processing center Friday \u201cto observe the vote counting process,\u201d according to the Los Angeles Times. <\/p>\n

What is ballot harvesting? <\/h3>\n

In California, a third party can collect ballots from voters and turn the ballots in to officials, referred to as \u201cballot harvesting.\u201d <\/p>\n

In 2016, d unlimited ballot harvesting, meaning groups can turn in as many ballots as they can collect from voters, regardless of whether a voter needs help turning in their ballots or not. It is also legal for a person to be paid to collect ballots from voters, although they cannot be paid per ballot turned in. <\/p>\n
