{"id":1334,"date":"2026-06-10T18:07:43","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T18:07:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/americanmovershub.com\/?p=1334"},"modified":"2026-06-10T18:07:43","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T18:07:43","slug":"what-the-schmigadoon-co-creator-said-after-winning-2-tony-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/americanmovershub.com\/?p=1334","title":{"rendered":"What the \u2018Schmigadoon!\u2019 co-creator said after winning 2 Tony Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>\u201cSchmigadoon!\u201d may have ended its run on television, but the musical comedy found new life \u2014 and a historic evening \u2014 on the Broadway stage. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanmovershub.com\/?p=1332\">Not so gentle giants: How to avoid a conflict with bison<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Apple TV+ series turned stage musical entered the 2026 Tony Awards with 12 nominations and walked away with four major wins, including best musical, best orchestrations, best original score and best book of a musical, according to the Tony Awards. <\/p>\n<p>For co-creator Cinco Paul, who took home individual trophies for original score and book, the achievement is a silver lining born from initial disappointment. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe day that I heard \u2018Schmigadoon!\u2019 wasn\u2019t going to continue on TV was a very sad, hard day for me,\u201d Paul told Playbill Sunday. \u201cBut the strike happened and I said, \u2018You know what, maybe I will turn \u201cSchmigadoon!\u201d into a stage musical,\u2019 which is what I always wanted it to be. So it is one of those cases of Mother Superior always says: \u2018If you close a door, open a window.\u2019 And that\u2019s exactly what happened.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>That window led Paul to Broadway\u2019s highest honor. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt all feels surreal, its crazy I am holding this in my hands,\u201d Paul told Tony Awards backstage, gesturing to his newly received Tony. \u201cThat\u2019s always the goal. Get people to laugh, laugh, laugh and then tear up a little at the end.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Paul and his longtime writing partner, Ken Daurio, had worked together for decades. They penned massive Hollywood films like \u201cThe Santa Clause 2\u2033 (2002), \u201cHorton Hears a Who!\u201d (2008), \u201cDespicable Me\u201d (2010) and \u201cDespicable Me 2\u2033 (2013).<\/p>\n<p>Both are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. <\/p>\n<p>While Daurio did not transition to the Broadway iteration of the Apple TV series, Paul\u2019s theatrical debut was fruitful. Holding his new awards, Paul expressed a deep sense of gratitude for finding a home in the theater community and realizing a lifelong dream. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really feel welcomed by this community because I am sort of new, even though I feel like I\u2019ve belonged \u2014 I\u2019ve wanted to be part of it my whole life,\u201d Paul told the Tony Awards. \u201cSo, it\u2019s so nice to actually be here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with BroadwayWorld after his second win of the night, Paul called himself the \u201cluckiest boy in the world,\u201d noting that the award for original score meant the most to him because composing was his favorite part of the process. To see his name alongside theatrical giants like Lin-Manuel Miranda and Michael R. Jackson, he said, was a dream come true. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means everything,\u201d Paul said. \u201cI do feel like \u2018Schmigadoon!\u2019 is finally home. Daurio chose to step away as the pair were developing the stage adaptation. As the project evolved, he noted that some of the show\u2019s edgier humor went beyond his personal comfort level for the family-friendly entertainment he loved to create, Deseret News previously reported. <\/p>\n<p>Though their professional writing partnership dissolved, their faith and friendship remain, offering an example on navigating differences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVery faithful members of the church can disagree on certain things,\u201d Paul previously told Deseret News. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople have different levels, and people draw the lines in different places, and that\u2019s totally fine,\u201d Paul continues. \u201cWe can all \u2014 we should all \u2014 still be able to get together in harmony with an understanding that the most important things that bring us together will never change.
