The framework establishes an agreement to cease military action for 60 days as officials in both countries continue negotiations for longer-term issues. <\/p>\n<p>The initial framework is a commitment from Iran to work with the U.S. to verify it is not developing a nuclear weapon nor is it \u201cfunding radicalism and terrorism in the region,\u201d according to senior U.S. officials. Here\u2019s what we know so far about the deal, and what else we are awaiting details on. <\/p>\n<h3>\u2018Immediate opening\u2019 of the Strait of Hormuz<\/h3>\n<p>One of the main agreements in the framework is to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which has been closed or heavily restricted since the conflict began in late February. <\/p>\n<p>Senior officials say the memorandum committed an \u201cimmediate opening,\u201d although those officials acknowledged a complete reopening could take weeks to return to normal. A reduction in force could occur as soon as a final deal is signed by both parties. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to see again the Iranians do what they promise they\u2019re going to,\u201d one official said. \u201cThe agreement contemplates the reduction of military forces in the region upon the agreement of a final deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Future of Iran\u2019s nuclear program<\/h3>\n<p>The first iteration of the framework does not contain a finalized agreement on what is next for Iran\u2019s attempted development of a nuclear program, but senior officials say those details would be hammered out in the next round of negotiations. <\/p>\n<p>The goal, according to one official, is that there will be more details to share publicly in the next 30 days. <\/p>\n<p>Still, senior officials say the agreement is a major win so far because Iran has learned it cannot attempt to develop nuclear weapons without economic consequences, which U.S. officials say has been a main factor. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think they realize that they would love to get a nuclear weapon if they can, but they know that if they choose that path, No. 1, our intelligence is threatful that we\u2019ll know,\u201d one official said. \u201cAnd No. 2, we have both the will and the capability to do something about it. So they\u2019re economically weaker than they\u2019ve ever been, they are obviously much more degraded militarily than they\u2019ve ever been.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>What are we still awaiting details on?<\/h3>\n<p>The fate of Iranian assets that had been frozen over the last few months remains the biggest question heading into final negotiations.
