When he fell to No. 17, Utah saw an opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>The Mammoth traded pick No. 19 and one of their third-rounders to the Los Angeles Kings to move up and snatch Belchetz, a power forward with offensive ability.<\/p>\n<p>Belchetz has a lot of similarities to current Mammoth associate captain Lawson Crouse. Both are big guys who scored roughly a point per game in the Ontario Hockey League in their respective draft seasons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s got a lot of great hockey sense,\u201d said Mammoth GM Bill Armstrong at the conclusion of the first round Friday evening. \u201cI love his game. (He) thinks the game at a high level. He\u2019s a big, big man. He can do a little bit of the nasty sometimes and take care of business, too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a great kid. We did a lot of work on him. We weren\u2019t sure that he was going to be there when we were picking and we had to trade up to get him, but we love who he is. We love the size, the hockey sense, the ability to play tough and hard. He\u2019s going to fit right into our culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Belchetz is excited to join the Mammoth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want (the fans) to know I\u2019d do anything to lift the (Stanley) Cup over my head and bring a championship to the (state) of Utah,\u201d he said. \u201cThey deserve it there. They\u2019re unbelievable fans. Every single game seems so cool and I can\u2019t wait to get down there.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Round 3, pick 96: Adam Valentini<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Position:\u00a0<\/b>Center<\/li>\n<li><b>Height:\u00a0<\/b>5-foot-10<\/li>\n<li><b>Weight:\u00a0<\/b>185 pounds<\/li>\n<li><b>Hometown:<\/b>\u00a0Toronto, Ontario<\/li>\n<li><b>2025-26 team:\u00a0<\/b>University of Michigan, NCAA<\/li>\n<li><b>2025-26 production:\u00a0<\/b>40 games played, 11 goals, 27 points<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Armstrong doesn\u2019t draft sub-six-foot players very often \u2014 but when he does, they\u2019re usually pitbulls.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s exactly what Adam Valentini is. He will never be outworked by anyone and he\u2019s unafraid to go to the corners.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, he can score.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from No. 1 pick Gavin McKenna, no first-year draft-eligible player scored more points in the NCAA this season than Valentini.<\/p>\n<p>Most experts projected Valentini to go in the late first or early second round, so when Utah snagged him with the last pick of the third round, they felt they got great value.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I play 200 feet of the ice really hard,\u201d Valentini told the local media in a virtual interview after being drafted. \u201c&#8230; And I think my offensive ability sets me apart from other players. I feel like I\u2019m also reliable in the (defensive) zone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mammoth director of amateur scouting Darryl Plandowski was impressed that as a 17-year-old, Valentini bet on himself by going to college rather than staying another year in the much easier USHL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe met him at the combine and you can tell right away that he\u2019s a very confident person,\u201d Plandowski said. \u201cWhen you\u2019re that size, you better be confident \u2014 and he is. That was why we thought, \u2018You know what? For the third round, it\u2019s a really good swing.\u2019&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Round 4, pick 115: Carl Axelsson<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Position:\u00a0<\/b>Goalie<\/li>\n<li><b>Height:\u00a0<\/b>6-foot-4<\/li>\n<li><b>Weight:\u00a0<\/b>183 pounds<\/li>\n<li><b>Hometown:<\/b>\u00a0Danderyd, Sweden<\/li>\n<li><b>2025-26 team:\u00a0<\/b>Muskegon Lumberjacks, USHL<\/li>\n<li><b>2025-26 stats:\u00a0<\/b>44 games played, .916 save percentage, 2.48 goals-against average<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the first time in Armstrong\u2019s tenure as GM (Arizona Coyotes days included), he has selected goaltenders in consecutive years.<\/p>\n<p>Carl Axelsson was eligible for the 2025 draft, but did not get selected. He went back to the USHL and posted impressive numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s big, he\u2019s strong. Maybe adding a \u201cTheodor Knights\u201d will help.<\/p>\n<p>Knights fits the Armstrong draft profile: a big guy who plays a physical game. Knights\u2019 two points in 24 games aren\u2019t necessarily impressive, but his 78 penalty minutes tell the story of who he is.<\/p>\n<p>He told the media after being selected that he models his game after Chris Tanev and Nikita Zadorov \u2014 big, physical guys. It\u2019s also worth noting that Tanev\u2019s brother, Brandon Tanev, plays for the Mammoth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefensive D-man,\u201d Knights said when asked what his role was this season. \u201cVery many defensive face-offs. &#8230; Shutdown player. You can put me in when the other guys have their best players on the ice and I will always go in and shut them down and make the game harder for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MoDo, where Knights has played the last two seasons, is famous for producing high-profile NHLers. Their list of alumni includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Henrik and Daniel Sedin<\/li>\n<li>Peter Forsberg<\/li>\n<li>Victor Hedman<\/li>\n<li>Markus N\u00e4slund<\/li>\n<li>William Nylander<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cI think because (of) the training culture around the club,\u201d Knights said when asked why MoDo is so good at developing elite talent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a hockey town and everyone loves hockey there, so everyone wants to compete for a good spot on the tapes \u2014 and we\u2019re really close to each other, also, so it\u2019s a combination of everything.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Impressed with Sweden\u2019s defenseman Theodor Knights at the #HlinkaGretzkyCup!<\/p>\n<p>A big, reliable blueliner who values the defensive game. Plays a strong physical style in his own zone and is trusted to shut down opponents\u2019 top lines. #2026NHlDraft pic.twitter.com\/os4n9M0BPM<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jacob Smeds (@JR_Smeds) August 17, 2025<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Round 5, pick 147: Florent Houle<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Position:\u00a0<\/b>Right wing<\/li>\n<li><b>Height:\u00a0<\/b>6-foot<\/li>\n<li><b>Weight:\u00a0<\/b>192 pounds<\/li>\n<li><b>Hometown:<\/b>\u00a0Quebec City, Quebec<\/li>\n<li><b>2025-26 team:\u00a0<\/b>Sherbrooke Phoenix, QMJHL<\/li>\n<li><b>2025-26 production:\u00a0<\/b>52 games played, 19 goals, 41 points<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By most accounts, Florent Houle is a pesky player who can get under opponents\u2019 skin. With 93 penalty minutes in 52 games in a league that doesn\u2019t allow fighting, that\u2019s apparent.<\/p>\n<p>Plandowski said that was a focus of this year\u2019s draft for his team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou want guys that drive the team in some way,\u201d he said. \u201cWhether that\u2019s offense, scoring goals, whether that\u2019s defense, whether that\u2019s playing a physical brand of hockey, I think you\u2019re always looking for somebody that can make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like Axelsson, Houle is an over-ager who went back after going undrafted and worked hard to earn a selection.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>L&#8217;effort d&#8217;Ilya Kolmakov, les mains de Florent Houle! \ud83e\udd1d<\/p>\n<p>Les 2 joueurs se d\u00e9marquent \u00e0 leur fa\u00e7on, pour un magnifique but! @PhoenixSherbroo pic.twitter.com\/IXqdgXpsM6<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 LHJMQ (@LHJMQ) March 5, 2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Round 7, pick 211: Artem Prima<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Position:\u00a0<\/b>Right wing\/left wing<\/li>\n<li><b>Height:\u00a0<\/b>6-foot-1<\/li>\n<li><b>Weight:\u00a0<\/b>176 pounds<\/li>\n<li><b>Hometown:<\/b>\u00a0Yekaterinburg, Russia<\/li>\n<li><b>2025-26 team:\u00a0<\/b>Minot Minotauros, NAHL<\/li>\n<li><b>2025-26 production:\u00a0<\/b>28 games played, 8 goals, 26 points<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Artem Prima split the season between the NAHL and the USHL, scoring a little less than a point per game in both leagues.
