After a 12-game winning streak in a \u201cJeopardy!\u201d season that has seen several standout contestants, Adam Remsen\u2019s time on the show came to an end Tuesday \u2014 and it all came down to the final question.<\/p>\n

Adam Remsen\u2019s \u2018Jeopardy!\u2019 winning streak ends <\/h3>\n

Remsen, an attorney and theater producer from Memphis, Tennessee, had the lead going into the Final Jeopardy round.<\/p>\n

In a consistently close game with contestant Richard Nguyen, Remsen\u2019s lead largely came about thanks to a $5,000 Daily Double wager on the following clue: \u201cThe effect of this effect is that patients sometimes get better even when treated with inactive substances or fake procedures.\u201d <\/p>\n

Remsen\u2019s correct answer \u2014 the placebo effect \u2014 helped place him in the lead with $20,800 over Nguyen\u2019s $14,400.<\/p>\n

It all came down to the final clue in the category \u201c20th-century novels\u201d: \u201cDavid Ben-Gurion called this 1958 book \u2018as a piece of propaganda … the greatest thing ever written about Israel.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n

Only Nguyen came up with the right response: \u201cWhat is \u2018Exodus\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n

Remsen\u2019s $8,001 wager took him down to $12,799. Nguyen\u2019s $6,401 wager raised his total to $20,801, and the research attorney from Placentia, California, is now the newest \u201cJeopardy!\u201d champion. <\/p>\n

\u201cJeopardy!\u201d fans haven\u2019t seen the last of Remsen, though. The 12-game champ \u2014 who won over $300,000 throughout his run \u2014 will return to the Alex Trebek Stage to compete in the prestigious Tournament of Champions. <\/p>\n
