Andy Reid immediately grew teary-eyed, pausing for reflection, when he was asked in a recent podcast interview how his marriage has carried him through the past 45 years.<\/p>\n

His wife \u2014 who has warmly titled herself the \u201chead coach of the head coach\u201d \u2014 has brought \u201csuch great energy\u201d to their life and marriage, the Kansas City Chiefs head coach said in the podcast interview released by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been through some ups and downs,\u201d but there is strength and trust in the relationship, he said.<\/p>\n

Reid, a Latter-day Saint and NFL coach, was interviewed by Derrick Porter, host of the Tabernacle Choir\u2019s signature broadcast, \u201cMusic & the Spoken Word.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their interview was released ahead of Reid\u2019s upcoming guest appearance on the choir\u2019s July 5 episode of \u201cMusic & the Spoken Word,\u201d which will celebrate the United States\u2019 250th anniversary.<\/p>\n

The conversation centered around the people, principles and pillars that have carried Reid\u2019s team, faith and family.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no greater coach than Christ,\u201d Reid said. Christ has made it through a \u201cwhole lot of years being a pretty good coach\u201d and is a \u201cgreat example to all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reid\u2019s yearslong relationship with the Tabernacle Choir<\/h3>\n

Reid\u2019s upcoming performance with the Tabernacle Choir, where he will guest narrate the choir\u2019s July 5 episode of \u201cMusic & the Spoken Word,\u201d will not be the first time the head coach has shared the stage with the choir.<\/p>\n

Back in 2003, Reid \u2014 then-head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles \u2014 actually led the choir in singing \u201cFly Eagles Fly\u201d during their July 2003 concert at Philadelphia\u2019s Mann Theater.<\/p>\n

Porter asked Reid about this unique experience, and Reid said it was \u201creally one of the highlights of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou compare this to what you do when you win a Super Bowl,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was just that exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a 2003 Church News report about the event, Reid said: \u201cIt was a rush to see all those faces smiling and looking back at me. I think they were enjoying it as much as I was.\u201d<\/p>\n

How Reid has kept his faith and family strong<\/h3>\n

As part of a business often requiring him to work 12- to 15-hour days, Reid said in the podcast there are three pillars and priorities he has adopted to guide his focus, time and energy.<\/p>\n

These pillars are faith, family and football.<\/p>\n

Faith and family are important to him and his wife, Reid said, so he makes the time to pray, study his scriptures, and regularly communicate with his wife and kids.<\/p>\n

Making the time for each of these habits often requires him to wake up early so he can arrive at work at the Kansas City Stadium at about 4 a.m. and maximize the quiet hours of the morning, he said.<\/p>\n

Reid also said he makes the effort to partake of the sacrament each Sunday, even during busy football seasons.<\/p>\n

Doing so \u201ckeeps everything real,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In \u201cthis world you can get caught up in, like I say, the fluff of the National Football League \u2014 it\u2019s big,\u201d he said. But it really comes down to the players, the relationships and family.<\/p>\n
