{"id":3414,"date":"2026-07-08T04:36:52","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T04:36:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/americanmovershub.com\/?p=3414"},"modified":"2026-07-08T04:36:52","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T04:36:52","slug":"future-university-of-utah-golfer-ben-wilson-captures-medalist-honors-at-state-am","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/americanmovershub.com\/?p=3414","title":{"rendered":"Future University of Utah golfer Ben Wilson captures medalist honors at State Am"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Ben Wilson captured medalist honors and the No. 1 seed for match play at the Utah Men\u2019s State Amateur by shooting his second straight 67 at Soldier Hollow Golf Course Tuesday to finish at 10-under-par 134.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanmovershub.com\/?p=3412\">Watch: 5 things BYU\u2019s Kalani Sitake said at Big 12 media days, from CFP expansion to the Utah rivalry<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wilson, an 18-year-old Corner Canyon graduate who has signed to play at the University of Utah, edged a pair of BYU golfers, Angus Klintworth and Austin Shelley, by two strokes.<\/p>\n<p>After shooting a 67 on the tougher Gold Course Monday, Wilson matched that number on the Silver Course with five birdies and a bogey on the front nine for a 32 and two birdies and a bogey on the back nine for a 35.<\/p>\n<p>Klintworth is a senior-to-be from South Africa, while Shelley is a recent graduate of Skyline High who has signed to play for the Cougars. <\/p>\n<p>Shelley fired a 5-under-par 67 on the Gold Course Tuesday to finish at 136, while Klintworth, the first-round co-leader, shot a 70.<\/p>\n<p>Five golfers, Jackson Mauss, Kenny Palmer, Jesus Castaneda, David Timmins and Parker Bunn, all finished at 6-under-par 138.<\/p>\n<p>Mauss, who last year lost in the quarterfinals to his brother Bowen, the 2025 champion, fired a 66 despite making double bogey on the 18th hole. <\/p>\n<p>Before that, he made six birdies and an eagle at No. 17 on the Gold Course. Oscarson, dies at age 80<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Three golfers came in at 5-under-par 139, including Noah Moody, Brandon Robison and former finalist David Liechty.<\/p>\n<p>Former champion Dan Horner was among a group of five golfers at 140, including Ty Brady, Noah Schone, Kanyon DeRyke and Stockton Penman.<\/p>\n<p>St. George\u2019s Brock Porter had the comeback of the day, shooting a 7-under-par 65 on the tougher Gold Course after a 77 in the first round to make the cut at 142.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The scores were higher Tuesday than Monday and the cut came at 3-over-par 147.
