Or was it a balloon?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><i>Editor\u2019s note: This story was originally published on July 8, 2024.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>A look back at local, national and world events through Deseret News archives.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>It began in 1947.<\/p>\n<p>The Deseret News reported on events out of New Mexico that remain unsolved.<\/p>\n<p>Or is it a cover-up?<\/p>\n<p>On July 8, 1947, a New Mexico newspaper, the Roswell Daily Record, quoted officials at Roswell Army Air Field as saying they had recovered a \u201cflying saucer\u201d that crashed onto a ranch; officials then said it was actually a weather balloon.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanmovershub.com\/?p=3442\">Opinion: Is AI the political \u201cDeath Star?\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2014FLASH\u2014<\/p>\n<p>\u201cROSWELL, N.M. \u2014 The Army Air Force here today announced a flying disc has been on a ranch near Roswell and is in Army possession.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLt. Warren Haught, public information officer of the Roswell Army Air Field, announced the find had been made \u2018sometime last week,\u2019 and had been turned over to the air field through cooperation of the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2019It was inspected at the Roswell Army Air Field and subsequently loaned\u2019 by Maj. Jesse A.
