One of the funniest moments in \u201cJeopardy!\u201d history, as the late Alex Trebek wrote in his memoir, came during a 2018 game where all three contestants seemed to be avoiding a category titled \u201cTalkin\u2019 Football.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reason was valid: They didn\u2019t know much about football. <\/p>\n

All three players failed to buzz in for a single clue in the category \u2014 with an increasingly amused Trebek offering commentary along the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you guys ring in and get this one, I will die,\u201d Trebek said as he waited for the time to run out on the final clue in the category.<\/p>\n

That famous moment likely won\u2019t play out in a new \u201cJeopardy!\u201d spinoff launching in July. <\/p>\n

Catered to \u201csports fanatics,\u201d \u201cESPN Jeopardy!\u201d is bringing sports commentators and celebrity sports fans to the Alex Trebek Stage for a tournament-style play that will give the winner $500,000 for the charity of their choice, according to the official \u201cJeopardy!\u201d website. <\/p>\n

The new series, hosted by \u201cMonday Night Football\u201d broadcaster Joe Buck, features a star-studded lineup \u2014 including former Notre Dame and NFL linebacker Manti Te\u2019o. <\/p>\n

Manti Te\u2019o will compete on \u2018ESPN Jeopardy!\u2019<\/h3>\n

After an eight-year NFL career that included playing for the San Diego Chargers, New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears, Te\u2019o shifted to working as a sports analyst and host for the NFL Network. <\/p>\n

Now, Te\u2019o will compete against his fellow NFL Network analysts Kyle Brandt and Jamie Erdahl in the fifth quarterfinal game of ESPN \u201cJeopardy!\u201d<\/p>\n

A teaser for the new series shows Te\u2019o getting into the spirit of the competition with a \u201cLet\u2019s go!\u201d per People. <\/p>\n

His appearance on \u201cESPN Jeopardy!\u201d comes four years after taking part in the Netflix documentary \u201cUntold,\u201d which revisits the catfishing scandal that put him at the center of a media firestorm while playing for Notre Dame. <\/p>\n

Te\u2019o, who is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has been open about how he has relied on his faith to forgive the person who catfished him and the people who mocked him after the scandal.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Christ could (forgive) in one of the most excruciating of deaths,\u201d he said during a 2024 appearance on the \u201cAll In\u201d podcast, per Deseret News. \u201cThen why can\u2019t I do that? What is my excuse?\u201d<\/p>\n

What to know about \u2018ESPN Jeopardy!\u2019<\/h3>\n

Hosted by Buck, \u201cESPN Jeopardy!\u201d premieres July 31 on Disney+, Hulu and the ESPN app. <\/p>\n

Buck isn\u2019t a stranger to hosting \u201cJeopardy!\u201d \u2014 the Emmy Award-winning ESPN sportscaster was one of several guest hosts who stepped in to helm the long-running quiz show following Trebek\u2019s death, the Deseret News previously reported. <\/p>\n

The \u201cESPN Jeopardy!\u201d tournament will feature six quarterfinals, three semifinals and the final championship.<\/p>\n
