Col. Oliver North?<\/p>\n<p>On this day in 1987, North, a career military operative, wrapped up six days of congressional testimony about his role in the Iran-Contra events.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanmovershub.com\/?p=3665\">No surprises here, World Cup semifinals features top four teams<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The images of North, ramrod straight in his military uniform as he was sworn in to testify, or gesturing as he answered heated questions from lawmakers, haven\u2019t dimmed with the years.<\/p>\n<p>Feelings about the whole episode are also still strong.<\/p>\n<p>In July 1987, North was summoned to testify before televised hearings of a joint congressional committee that was formed to investigate the Iran\u2013Contra scandal. During the hearings, North admitted that he had misled Congress, for which, along with other actions, he was later charged.<\/p>\n<p>A defiant North \u2014 in a sort of \u201cYou can\u2019t handle the truth!\u201d moment \u2014 said he viewed the Contras as \u201cfreedom fighters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanmovershub.com\/?p=3663\">Manti Te\u2019o is competing on \u2018Jeopardy!\u2019 \u2014\u00a0ESPN style<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 1988, North was indicted on 16 felonies.
