Utah fantasy author Brandon Sanderson shared a big update on the progress of the upcoming movie based on his bestselling novel \u201cMistborn.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cAfter many months of work, I\u2019m thrilled to announce the first draft of the Mistborn screenplay is DONE!\u201d Sanderson posted on X on Tuesday. <\/p>\n

The rights to \u201cMistborn\u201d were picked up by Apple TV earlier this year in an \u201cunprecedented deal,\u201d part of which included giving Sanderson an unusual level of control over the adaptation, including allowing him to write the screenplay, as the Deseret News reported in February.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is just an early step in a long process,\u201d Sanderson posted about the screenplay draft, \u201cbut I\u2019m terribly excited by how it turned out!\u201d<\/p>\n

Sanderson shared a video update later on Tuesday where he talked more about what to expect next for \u201cMistborn,\u201d cautioning fans that there is still a long way to go. <\/p>\n

\u201cScreenplays go through a lot of drafts,\u201d he said in the video. \u201cThere\u2019s still a lot of work to do, but getting the screenplay done is a huge deal for me.\u201d <\/p>\n

A producer for the movie has been hired, but a search for a director hasn\u2019t begun yet, and likely won\u2019t until further along in the screenplay\u2019s revision process, Sanderson said earlier this month, per ScreenRant. <\/p>\n

In his X post, Sanderson noted that he had finished the screenplay \u201cjust in time to celebrate the book\u2019s original publication, twenty years ago this month.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cMistborn\u201d will be a full-length movie adapted by Apple TV, and Sanderson has previously said that he wants to be \u201cdeeply involved\u201d in the adaptation, as well as the streaming TV series of \u201cThe Stormlight Archive\u201d that\u2019s also in the works with Apple. <\/p>\n
