{"id":773,"date":"2026-05-27T18:19:23","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T18:19:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/americanmovershub.com\/?p=773"},"modified":"2026-05-27T18:19:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T18:19:23","slug":"biden-takes-legal-action-against-doj-to-protect-private-recordings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/americanmovershub.com\/?p=773","title":{"rendered":"Biden takes legal action against DOJ to protect private recordings"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Former President Joe Biden is suing the Department of Justice to keep interview recordings from becoming public. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/americanmovershub.com\/?p=771\">Opinion: Utah politics heat up with summer just around the corner<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The audio recordings and transcripts are private conversations Biden had with ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer that were obtained during special counsel Robert Hur\u2019s classified-documents investigation in 2023, per the lawsuit, filed on Tuesday in U.S. District Court.<\/p>\n<p>Hur ultimately determined that criminal charges were not warranted. <\/p>\n<p>The conversations from 2016 and 2026 allegedly discuss private matters such as his son Beau Biden\u2019s cancer and death, and Biden\u2019s choice not to run in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit argued that the family and personal challenges should be kept private.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery American, including a sitting or former Vice President, has a right to privacy in the personal conversations he has within his own home,\u201d the lawsuit reads, arguing that Biden\u2019s recordings should remain exempt from the Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA, which is the right of the American public to access records from any federal agency. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the U.S.Department of Justice obtains that private information through a criminal investigation, the Department bears a particular responsibility to protect it from disclosure,\u201d the lawsuit added. <\/p>\n<p>Two parties are seeking the Biden-Zwonitzer conversations for different reasons. The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, and one of its visiting fellows, Mike Howell, filed a FOIA request in 2024 for the recordings, but the DOJ initially fought it. The tapes belong to the American People and we will get them the tapes that Biden wants hidden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump also posted on Truth Social, calling Biden a \u201ccrooked politician\u201d for suing the DOJ in an attempt to keep the recordings private. <\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We sued for the tapes.
