‘Dancing with the Stars’ theme nights: What’s new and what’s returning

“Dancing with the Stars” fans know that most episodes come with a specific theme for the dances, and we now know the themes for some of this season’s upcoming episodes.

During Friday’s episode of the show’s official podcast, host Andy Richter shared some of the themes fans can expect during Season 35. He also shared what songs each of the contestants will be dancing to during this week’s “Viral Hits Night” on Tuesday evening.

Richter shared the themes for weeks 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9. He did not reveal what the theme for Week 5 will be. Some of these themes are ones that we have seen in past seasons while some are brand new. Here’s a look at this season’s theme nights and what dances viewers can expect to see on Tuesday.

New and unique themes this season

There are four unique themes coming this season:

• Week 3: Yacht Rock Night
• Week 4: Mariah Carey Night
• Week 7: Horror Movie Night (for Halloween)
• Week 9: Grammy Night

Fan-favorite themes that will be returning

Two of the theme nights Richter revealed for this season are fan favorites that are featured on the show regularly.

• Week 6: Dedication Night
• Week 8: Disney Night

Dedication Night tends to be the most emotional episode of each season. During the show, each contestant will dedicate their performance to someone important to them.

What dances are the contestants doing for Viral Hits Week?

Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov

Olympic figure skate Amber Glenn and her pro partner Pasha Pashkov will be performing a tango to “All the Things She Said” by Harrison.

Last week, the pair performed a cha-cha to “Smooth” by Santana featuring Rob Thomas. They received a score of 18 out of 30.

Ciara Miller and Brandon Armstrong

Reality TV star Ciara Miller will perform a tango with her pro partner Brandon Armstrong to the song “No Broke Boys” by Disco Lines and Tinashe.

Last week, Miller and Armstrong performed a foxtrot to Whitney Houston’s “Exhale (Shoop Shoop).” The judges gave them a score of 15 out of 30.

Connor Wood and Rylee Arnold

Podcaster and comedian Connor Wood will be dancing a tango to “12 to 12” by Sombr with his pro partner Rylee Arnold.

Last week, the pair did a cha-cha to “I Like It, I Love It” by Tim McGraw. The judges gave them a score of 16 out of 30.

Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach

Paralympian and track star Ezra Frech and his pro partner Daniella Karagach will perform a cha-cha to “Low” by Flo Rida.

Last week, Frech and Karagach danced a tango to Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.” They got a score of 20 out of 30.

Giada De Laurentiis and Alan Bersten

Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis and her pro partner Alan Bersten will dance a salsa to “Bella Ciao” by Becky G.

During the premiere, the pair performed a tango to “Venus” by Shocking Blue. They received a score of 16 out of 30.

Guillermo Rodriguez and Witney Carson

Jimmy Kimmel’s sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez will be performing a paso doble to a song by Rihanna with his pro partner Witney Carson.

For the premiere, Rodriguez and Carson danced a cha-cha to “Mr. Big Stuff” by Jean Knight. The pair received a score of 10 out of 30.

Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson

Actor Harry Shum Jr. and his pro partner Jenna Johnson will be performing a Viennese waltz to “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls.

During the premiere, the pair performed a cha-cha to Earth, Wind & Fire’s hit “Let’s Groove.” The judges gave them a score of 31 out of 30.

Jackson Olson and Emma Slater

Savannah Bananas player and social media personality Jackson Olson will do a foxtrot to the song “That’s So True” by Gracie Abrams with his pro partner Emma Slater.

Last week, the pair performed a cha-cha to “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls. The dance earned them a score of 15 out of 30.

Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskiy

Actress Jenna Dewan and her pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy will be doing a jive to “Animal” by KATSEYE.

During the premiere, Dewan and Chmerkovskiy performed a tango to “Call Me” by Blondie. The judges gave them a score of 19 out of 30.

Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa

Actress Julia Stiles and her pro partner Ezra Sosa will be performing a tango to the song “The Door” by Teddy Swims.

Last week, Stiles and Sosa did a quickstep to Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5.” They received a score of 18 out of 30.

Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas

Reality TV star Maura Higgins will be doing a cha-cha to “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire with her pro partner Mark Ballas.

For the premiere, Higgins and Ballas performed a foxtrot to “Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles. The dance earned them a score of 21 out of 30.

Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik

Actress Tatyana Ali and her pro partner Jan Ravnik will be performing a foxtrot to Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”

Last week, Ali and Ravnik did a jive to “Knock on Wood” by Amii Stewart. The judges gave them a score of 12 out of 30.

Taylor Hanson and Britt Stewart

Musician Taylor Hanson and his pro partner Britt Stewart will be doing a cha-cha to DNCE’s “Cake by the Ocean.”

Last week, Hanson and Stewart performed a quickstep to the song “Tell Her About It” by Billy Joel. They received a score of 16 out of 30.

Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess

“The Bachelorette” alum and reality TV star Tyler Cameron and his pro partner Sharna Burgess will perform a salsa to the song “Girls” by The Kid LAROI.

Last week, the pair performed a tango to “Are You Gonna Go My Way” by Lenny Kravitz. They received a score of 12 out of 30 for the dance.

How to watch Week 2 of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 35

“Dancing with the Stars” Viral Hits Night will air Tuesday at 7 p.m. MDT. It will air on Disney+ and ABC. The episode will be available the next day on Hulu.
