Lehi jumped all over Bountiful in Tuesday night’s season opener, scoring three goals in the first half on its way to a dominant 5-1 victory over the defending state champs.

Lehi had five different goal scorers in the victory, a great start to the season for Lehi as it looks to improve upon last year’s so-so campaign.
“Bountiful came out strong a put a lot of pressure on us early and it took a minute to find our composure but once we did the game was flowing well for us,” said Lehi coach Jonas Hartmann.
Presley Shippen, Tessa Richards and Kajsa Sherman all registered goals in the dominant first half, with Lillie Watson and Chloe Fritch taking on goals in the second half.
Hartmann had high praise for the play of Aly Badger in the middle and then Richards on the wing both in her offensive and defensive contributions.

Hartmann was pleased with how his players adjusted tactically during the game to deal with Bountiful’s heavily-loaded midfield.
Ashley Garener notched two assists for the Pioneers in the win.
“Eventually the amount the offense found a way through and I felt like we were in control of the game for the vast majority but Bountiful showed in spurts why they won the championship last year,” said Hartmann.
“They are dangerous coming forward and it took great defense to push them about 75 minutes before they got a goal. I think our midfielders and forwards work really hard and executed the game plan well and our defense settled into the game nicely.”
Bountiful’s lone goal came late in the match as Kayd Kupfer scored on an assist from Myka Page.
