Kelly Clarkson sings ‘Golden’ from ‘KPop Demon Hunters’
On Monday, Clarkson, the powerhouse vocalist who launched to fame after becoming the inaugural “American Idol” winner in 2002, concluded seven seasons of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” by performing an hour of fan favorites from her extensive catalog of music — everything from her breakout hit “Since U Been Gone” to her newest single “I’d Be Lyin’.”
It was a departure from her usual performances on the show, which typically showcase Clarkson’s interpretations of other artists’ hits. But Clarkson didn’t leave fans without a cover song for her final show. Instead, she just saved the most anticipated cover for last.
After performing more than 800 covers on her show over the years, per Entertainment Weekly, Clarkson’s final “Kellyoke” segment included what the singer called the “most requested Kellyoke EVER”: “Golden” from “KPop Demon Hunters.”
The final episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” aired a video of Clarkson’s prerecorded performance of “Golden” — which features the singer performing the hit song in the same original key as the movie.
“That is a very high song,” Clarkson said after showing the performance, per Entertainment Weekly. “I was like, ‘Let’s go for it.’”

“Golden” — which singer EJAE said she co-wrote while on her way to the dentist — held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight consecutive weeks. It became the longest-leading song from a movie soundtrack of the decade as it surpassed the previous record set by the “Encanto” hit “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” Billboard reported.
“KPop Demon Hunters” is also the most-watched film in Netflix history, as the Deseret News previously reported.
So taking on a song like “Golden” came with a lot of pressure. But Clarkson delivered.
A video of Clarkson’s performance posted Monday on the show’s official Facebook page already has 14 million views. On Instagram, it has more than 1 million likes.

The singer and songwriter behind “Golden” shared the performance online and said she was “so honored.”
“U absolutely killed it,” EJAE wrote, per The Wrap.
“Kelly done healed the honmoon by herself,” “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote in a comment on Instagram.
“‘Golden,’ was the most requested Kellyoke we ever had, so Kelly knew she wanted to put it in the last episode,” executive producer Alex Duda told USA Today. “That’s why we built the whole episode around ‘By Request.’ We knew that’s going to be positive; we won’t be sad. We’ll be happy because it’ll be a Kelly Clarkson concert, basically.”
Why is Kelly Clarkson ending her show?
Clarkson’s viral performance of “Golden” comes several months after she shared her decision to step back from the show in an effort to prioritize her family, People reported.
“My kiddos have always come first, they’re a big reason I did this show … they’re also a big reason it’s time to say goodbye,” she said in a farewell message, per Entertainment Weekly. “I’m such a proud mama. They’re the greatest kiddos in the world.”
“The Kelly Clarkson Show” premiered in September 2019 and ran for seven seasons — more than 1,200 episodes — and earned 24 Daytime Emmy Awards.
“This isn’t goodbye,” Clarkson wrote in her post announcing the show’s end back in February. “I’ll still be making music, playing shows here and there and you may catch me on ‘The Voice’ from time to time … you never know where I might show up next.
“But for now, I want to thank y’all so much for allowing our show to be a part of your lives, and for believing in us and hanging with us for seven incredible years.”
Although “The Kelly Clarkson Show” era is officially over, fans can still see the singer somewhat regularly. Clarkson is returning to her red swivel chair as a coach on Season 30 of “The Voice,” which premieres Sept. 21.
