The Colorado Springs Colorado Temple officially broke ground for construction with a ceremony held Saturday, Sept. 12. Construction of both the Cincinnati Ohio and La Paz Bolivia temples is scheduled to begin this November, per a church press release published Monday.
Temples are places of “spiritual guidance, peace, hope and revelation,” Elder Karl D. Hirst of the church’s United States Central Area Presidency said at the Colorado Springs temple ceremony.
For Latter-day Saints, they “are literally the house of the Lord,” he said. “The Lord visits his temples, and they are the most precious and sacred of all our places of worship.”
Elder Hirst presided over the Colorado Springs temple groundbreaking ceremony and dedicated the temple site to carry a spirit of sacredness that may be felt “by those who work or pass by (it).”
The Colorado Springs temple was first announced in October 2023 and is planned to be a single-story structure of approximately 45,000 square feet.
Plans to construct the Cincinnati Ohio and La Paz Bolivia temples were first announced in 2024 and 2021, respectively. Both temples will be the third operating temples in their respective states and countries.
